Our previous albums "From a Point of Existence" and "Road to Darkness" are out now via a range of digital download sites as well as on CD via our website and we're fairly skint after financing the recording so if you could treat your prog-deprived eardrums with our unique brand of musical shenanigans we'd most certainly raise a flagon of mead in your excellent honor...
...And not many bands would do that, not even Cliff Richard and I bet he blinking well loves mead.

We've also released an EP "Songs from the Solway" and you can still get your grubby cyber-mitts on it from iTunes and similar invisible record stores.

'Fist News!

New Gandalf’s Fist Album to Feature Members of Nightwish, It Bites, Gryphon, Pendragon & More

Earlier this year, UK purveyors of Medieval Space Rock – Gandalf’s Fist, announced that work had begun on the follow up to last year’s “A Day in the Life of a Universal Wanderer” - the album which received critically high praise with Prog/Classic Rock Magazine’s Geoff Barton voting it in his Critic’s Choice list for 2013.

But what may be as equally exciting as news of this year’s successor, a seemingly fantastical, forest-themed piece, is the announcement surrounding the guest appearances that are lined up for the record.

Besides mainstays Dean Marsh and Luke Severn (coupled with new members Chris Ewen and Stefan Hepe), the album will feature contributions from Nightwish's Troy Donockley; Gryphon's Dave Oberlé; It Bites’ John Mitchell and fellow Arena sparring partner and Pendragon keyboard supremo Clive Nolan. Also appearing will be the much-respected Instrumental guitarist Matt Stevens, whilst female vocalist Melissa Hollick, having recently performed the track ‘I Believe’ on the ending credits of Bethesda’s ‘Wolfenstein: The New Order’, reprises her duties from the previous record.

Gandalf’s Fist chief composer, Dean Marsh commented on the news: “I’m over the moon to announce these collaborations – each and every musician involved has really gone the extra mile with their contributions to this record… it feels great to welcome such an esteemed ensemble to the ridiculous world of Gandalf’s Fist - I really can’t wait to show everyone what we’ve come up with!”

John Mitchell has been announced as providing the vocal to a powerful closing track to the album which can be described as a swashbuckling mix of Genesis and Queen, whilst on a separate track, Clive Nolan’s keyboard soloing drives home the Space-Rock credentials associated with Gandalf’s Fist.

Announced as playing the bouzouki, whistles and low whistle on a number of tracks, Nightwish/Bad Shepherds multi-instrumentalist Troy Donockley commented: "I was delighted to be asked. It's great to see some honest progressive rock coming from British West Cumbria!"

Whilst drummer/singer from 70’s folk-prog heroes Gryphon, Dave Oberlé, who joins the ensemble on vocals and bodhrán, remarked: "I was delighted when Dean approached me to play a small part in the recording of this album. Having listened to previous Gandalf's fist albums I had been very impressed with the standard of musicianship, composition and production. I tend to be rather selective these days about what projects I get involved in but this is most certainly a band to watch out for."

In addition, critically acclaimed instrumental guitar wizard Matt Stevens will be bringing some virtuoso nuances to the upcoming record. With trademark looping pedal in tow, Matt’s playing really adds an extra layer and dimension to the tracks.

GANDALF'S FIST Announce New Line-up; Begin Working on New Album

Press release 19th May 2014:

UK progressive rock wizards add two new members to their permanent line-up

Following on from the critical acclaim of last year’s “A Day in the Life of a Universal Wanderer” LP, UK's Progressive Rock wizards GANDALF'S FIST have added two new permanent faces to their line-up: Drummer Stefan Hepe and bassist Christopher Ewen. GANDALF'S FIST creative head and founding member Dean Marsh shares the following:

“GANDALF'S FIST are excited to announce the recent line-up change – We feel it’s important for any band to grow and develop and we’ve always seen expanding the scope of the band beyond mine and Luke’s creative vision as a key part of this

We are pleased to announce that Stefan Hepe will be taking up the position as our new drummer whilst also joining on bass is our long-time supporter and drinking companion Chris Ewen. Both epitomize Gandalf’s Fist’s ambition and determination, as well as a common eccentricity which gives this band the potential to grow creatively. Their performance with us last year at Planet Rockstock only cemented our belief that we’d hit on a fruitful musical chemistry with these guys and filled us with tremendous excitement for where we can go as a fully-formed unit.

Thank you to all of our fans for your support thus far – we’re excited to now bring you a bigger, bolder Gandalf’s Fist experience this year! Prog out with your log out!”

Upon joining the band full-time, following a successful Live performance at last year’s Planet Rockstock, Bassist Chris Ewen remarked:

“Having sampled the various musical delights of Gandalf’s Fist from the early days, when they were just a musing in the mad mind of Dean Marsh, I knew that there was plenty of talent on show. It was an honour to be a part of Gandalf’s Fist first festival appearance. Now it’s a case of onwards and upwards, and a chance to be a part of the Gandalf’s Fist musical revolution. With Deano Marsh’s creative genius, Luke’s cryptic lyrics, Stefan’s thunderous drums and now my booming bass lines, the world should be prepared for a good Fisting!”

The original two-piece collaboration now hangs its collective hat far further than the shores of Maryport, Cumbria, with German drummer Sefan Hepe adding:

I got in direct contact with the band last April - I was a fan, and I owned every release so far! I look at it as an opportunity to play great music and experience something new. If I wasn't going to be The Fist’s Drummer, somebody else would have played. Somebody else, who might not as much love the music as much as I do!”

As a four-piece, GANDALF'S FIST are currently writing and recording new material for their, as yet, untitled fifth full-length release due for release later in the year. With a number of high-profile guest musicians already jumping on board the project, 2014 surely is the year of the Fist.

A Universal Wanderer - Music Video

A new video for the track "A Universal Wanderer" is available now!
Music taken from the "A Day in the Life of a Universal Wanderer" Album - which is still available via our store!

The animation 'Sintel', licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0, mixes the 'Space Rock' adventurings of Gandalf's Fist with a unique fantasy element; creating a result which, we think, is pretty damn cool!
